The new single: Jealousy.
The singer, 32, said he felt “inhibited” about his gayness until several years ago. In an interview with Attitude magazine he commented: “I was terrified of being gay so I didn’t really feel sexual until I was about 26… I was quite inhibited. I feel like I’ve reached a place that I’m happy with, worked out things I will never do. It’s taken me years to work that out.”
Young, who was named last year as top gay role model, added: “I love getting older. These days I look after myself more and don’t drink as much, try not to smoke as much. I’m more responsible towards anyone in business or friendships. I think that shift is quite a pleasant one.”
The singer 'came out' shortly after he won U.K. reality contest Pop Idol in 2002. Voters on rights group Stonewall's website named him their favourite gay public figure. In the poll, Young won 58 per cent of the vote, leaving Alison Goldfrapp trailing in second place with 15 per cent. Bloc Party frontman Kele Okereke garnered 12 per cent to land third place. Joe McElderry, 2009 X Factor winner and recent Operastar winner, came fourth with 10 per cent.
Check out Young’s new single, Jealousy. Its overt gay plot will strike a familiar chord or three. The singer has clearly lost his heart to a sexy young hunk of ambiguous sexual orientation who spends his time trying too hard on a trapeze for some blonde bimbo. We know Will will win in the end, right?
