(TR : Tristan Rogue)
Last month, we interviewed author, model and designer Tristan Rogue, the man behind sexy apparel brand, Plastik Clothing. This month, we get his take on the range.
About Plastik Clothing
Who and/or what are your creative inspirations?
TR: I know it sounds horrible but I don’t actually aspire to be like any other designers. Sure I admire their work and love what they do, but I try to keep my focus 100% on what I am doing and believe by doing so my designs end up more original. My inspiration comes from the strangest and most random places. My Enforcer design was inspired by being pulled over by a hot police officer one day and my imagination running wild, but designs like my pink civilian piece was simply because I love the look of that color against tanned skin on a guy.
What aspect of cosmetic surgery helped shape the idea of “Plastik”?
TR: The thing I love about cosmetic surgery is freedom. Almost anyone who hates something about the way they look can fix it. I love the idea that you can completely upgrade and control aspects of your look in any way. It inspires me in the sense that only YOU have the power to change that which you don’t like about yourself, this relates to personality, your life as a whole, your current circumstances and your look.
There are so many underwear brands in the world. Why might we choose Plastik Clothing?
TR: Well apart from them always being bright and colorful, Plastik (contradictory to what the name could suggest to some people) are super comfortable. We use bamboo fibre mixed with just the right amount of spandex to make them as soft as silk, durable, hypo allergenic, colorfast and breathable.
If we ask you to recommend a Plastik Clothing product to our readers, which one would you choose. And why?
TR: It’s hard to pick a favorite but I think the Outlaws are my favorite at the moment. They’re for the naughty boys of the world.
Which of your competitors do you most admire and which do you most loathe?
TR: I love the color and cut of 2eros designs, they are fun, sexy and bright. The only competitors I loathe are overseas manufacturers who replicate hard working designers work, mass produce it and sell it online. I guess it’s like illegal downloading in a sense… If everyone stopped supporting it, there wouldn’t be a problem, but unfortunately that isn’t a reality with the current economic crisis.
How would you describe your own sartorial style?
TR: Modern, Twinky, Unique & Edgy.
Do you expect to grow fastest through your retail outlet or through online sales?
TR: Retail outlets are difficult. I know where the money will be in regards to opening another store and that is Sydney. It is on my list of things to do in the future when I have time. I would have to say online is the way to go though. So many people shop online these days, people of all ages. If you’re not online, you’re not reaching your full sales potential.
If you could invite a male celebrity to be the “brand ambassador”, who would that be?
TR: Zac Effron 100%. Great look, great body, great personality.
How do you intend men to feel when wearing Plastik branded clothing?
TR: Confident, unique, sexy. Guys wearing Plastik will stand out from the crowd… especially if underwear is all they are wearing whilst standing in the middle of a crowd.
So what’s next?
TR: Besides forging a parent brand and splitting Plastik into male and female clothing, I am in the middle of a project no one is going to expect from me and while I will continue to work hard on my clothing label, my main passion, it is time for me to explore another art which I hold very close to my heart. But you will just have to wait and see as my lips are sealed for now.
