PART 1 : About Tristan
(TR : Tristan Rogue)
Describe Tristan Rogue in 3 words.
TR : Intelligent, Unique, Blonde
According to your personal information on Facebook, you worked as a model and an author. So when and how did you decide that you wanted eventually to become a designer?
TR : I started out in modelling when I was around 21 and by that time I had already finished writing my first book, Into Darkeness (Available on Amazon) , But I have always designed clothing, since I can remember. I just never really believed in myself enough to take it further until a few years ago after I had a little bit of work done, ditched my insecurities and flourished into the insane outgoing person I am today. I searched endlessly for an entire year for the right manufacturer. No one could get my samples perfect. When I have a project that I am really passionate about, I am a nazi when it comes to perfection and having it done on time so it was a really difficult time for me, but I persisted and finally found several manufacturers who meet my high standards with regard to work conditions, quality control and time management. My first design arrived 6 months after first designing them and they sold like crazy, so I knew from then on that this was the business for me. I get to unleash my creativity, unrestricted, and I get to have fun running a business (Another one of my strong passions).
Also, from your Facebook, we learn that you hold controversial (pro) views on cosmetic surgery. So tell us all about it.
TR : It’s true, although I have come a long way in the past two years in regards to my views on Cosmetic Surgery. I have battled with Body Dismorphic Disorder for a long time now and only now am beginning to really find myself and really discover the real me. B.D.D (Body Dismorphic Disorder) is a mental illness where a perfectly beautiful person can look in the mirror and see nothing but flaws and things they ‘Need’ to change. It can cause extreme depression in a person and really control your entire life. I do however believe that surgery (Not going overboard) can completely change a person’s life. Doctors tell you that a nose job or fat injections won’t change your personality but they’re wrong. If you are ruled by insecurity due to a physical flaw, yeah I definitely believe you should get it fixed. Take away the insecurity and it gives other aspects of your personality to shine and flourish. It gives you the ability to stop wasting time and energy worrying about how bad you think you look and put everything into succeeding in life. Some people see my views on surgery as idiotic or irrisponsible, but I see it as honest. If something bothers you, don’t sit around complaining about it, get out there and fix it! I follow that philosophy in all areas of life and it has gotten me where I am today.
What makes you want to design underwear and T-shirts?
TR : I wanted my brand to be recognised as being sexy, colorful and unique so underwear was a natural choice for me, I have fun with the versatility I get to explore in my photoshoots and designs so it keeps me focused and passionate about what I do. T-shirts was just the business expanding really. Plastik Clothing started out as an ‘Underwear Only’ brand, but is soon to break those bounderies again when we expand into women’s clothing.
In your mind, what should a “Plastik boy” be?
TR : They should be everything Plastik is defined to be.
Plastik \Plas"tik\ (pl[a^]s"t[i^]k), adjective
1. Having the power to give form or fashion to a mass of matter.
2. To be physically flawless, popular and always desired by many.
3. To be fierce, relentless and dignified.
4. To rule the school, everyone wants you and everyone wants to be you.
5. To remain true to yourself and not let anyone get in your way.
Does Australia contribute in any way to your personality and your goals?
TR : It definitely does, but then again so do other countries I have lived in, like Edinburgh & London. I have been lucky enough to lead a very colorful life so all of my life experience comes into play with my designs and my personality in general.
Where, outside Australia, is your favourite place?
TR : London definitely holds a place in my heart for sure. I lived there with my Dad briefly and I had the time of my life. London really inspired me and opened my eyes, it was probably my biggest adventure to date. Let’s just say Scientology (Not any more), Romance and dancing on bar tops underage.
Who’s your hottest favourite singer on your iPod right now?
TR : That’s a hard one. All the usual gay music icons frequent my playlist; Lucas Brenton, Chris Crocker, Jeffree Star, but I do have a broad music taste, from Marylin Manson to Britney Spears. I couldn’t live in a world without music.
Are you actually living fast enough to die young?
TR : Oh I see you found the quote I want on my tombstone haha. ‘Live Fast, Die Young and Leave a good looking corpse’ to me has a different meaning to how it sounds. I live fast in the sense that I live in the moment. If I have an idea, nothing will get in my way until that thought becomes reality. I am very driven and nothing can hold me back. Dying young and leaving a good looking corpse is really just about physical and cosmetic maintenance, so even if I do die at an old age I want to do so looking flawless.
Does a gay sensibility underpin your lifestyle?
TR : I’d like to say it doesn’t, but I would be lying. I’ve come to love myself and really grown as a person in the past 2 years and being gay has had a massive impact on that. Being gay has made me every part of success that I am today and I wouldn’t change one thing that has happened in my life. Being gay, I find it hard to work a regular 9-5 in Australia without discrimination. Even though employers will always tell you they are behind you supporting you 100% in discrimination cases, they aren’t. All they want is to protect the company from a lawsuit, sweep it all under the carpet. This unfortunate, covered up truth is what drove me to start my own businesses and become the person I am today.
