Interviewing JJ Boqari The Lustralboy Thirsty Thirteen Questions

Designer, businessman, musician, photographer, filmmaker and writer... Oh, and don’t forget, he is also the model of the brand and our August cover boy! What more can you ask for? JJ Boqari is a multi-talented guy. In this interview, we learn about his background, hobbies, and the underwear brand that carries his name, BOQARI.

Lb: Lustralboy / JB : JJ Boqari

Lb: Mr. Boqari, when and how did you decide that you wanted eventually to become a designer?

JB: I've always been creative and artistic, trying my hand at different media forms... writing, filmmaking, photography, product design, graphic design, and fashion. It always bothered me that there was a real lack of sexy underwear for men. I discovered seamless apparel technology a few years ago and wanted to make seamless underwear for men ever since. I started really designing men's underwear about two years ago. I also started designing men's bags recently. My first one is called the Getaway.

Lb: I see. So you are multi-talented, especially in the arts field. So, when you’re not designing, how do you like to spend your time?

JB: I'm pretty much a workaholic. I also have a headphones business called JLab that keeps me pretty busy. Besides that, my partner and I like to cook, travel, and explore erotic photography.

Lb: Erotic photography? Oh, I appreciate your frankness! Well, beyond underwear, which other fashion brands do you admire?

JB: I love Gucci and Versace for their bold, sexy designs, as well as their craftsmanship.

Lb: Yes, sex sells! I enjoyed Versace in Gianni’s time. And what makes you want to design underwear?

JB: The male body is so often hidden by our society. It's really time for us to evolve. I see the human body as sexy in all its forms and worthy of celebrating. I design underwear that can be worn by men, women, and everyone in between. BOQARI underwear is something you can feel sexy in, whether you're just dressing for the day, or doing yoga, swimming, or making out. You just feel sexy putting them on. That's the point. Once I started wearing them, I can't wear anything else. They are so comfortable, so sexy, and so breathable... it's just perfect for me.

Lb: Right. You mention about SEXINESS so often. Is that your inspiration?

JB: Feeling sexy is really my inspiration. That is what BOQARI underwear are all about.

Lb: Could you describe what a “Boqari man” should be?Sexy?

JB: I can tell you who I am, since I really designed the line around how I feel, which is sexy, athletic, and exhibitionist.

Lb: What's the craziest photo shoot you've ever done?

JB: Ha! We've done some crazy ones. I've modeled underwear on the top of a snow-covered mountain, on the steps at Versailles, and in the streets of Hong Kong. Hopefully, I'm still building up to the craziest shoot ever.

Lb: So if you could invite a male celebrity to be the brand ambassador, who would that be? As you said, athletic, sexy and exhibitionist… Well, Jack Black won’t be making it to the list, then.

JB: That's a great question. I like Brad Pitt and George Clooney, but right now they are out of my price range. I think Obama would be a great model for BOQARI, if he only had the balls to do it. 50 Cent. For now, it's just me and my partner is the photographer. It's fun. But I'm definitely on the lookout for hot models, both men and women, so hit me up!

Lb: Obama? Mr. President? Well, I’m sure he has balls… And I’m impressed to know the model is YOURSELF! So, how do you intend men to feel when wearing Boqari labeled clothing?

JB: Sexy. Beautiful.Dressed to thrill.

Lb: Oh, yes. Sexy is the theme! But tell me, there are so many sexy underwear brands in the world, why might we choose Boqari?

JB: BOQARI underwear is really unlike anything else out there. They look modern and bold, and feel great to whoever touches them. Plus they are super comfortable. Give them a try and let me know what you think!

Lb: Okay, it sounds like wearing nothing when I wear the Boqari undies. Nice! Apart from clothing and accessories, Boqari also sells audio products. How does music impact on your life?

JB: Music is a huge part of my life. I've done some electronic music and hip-hop, and for five years I've been running a headphones brand.

Lb:OMG! You make music too! Is there anything that you can’t do? Of course, nowadays, cross-over design projects are very popular in the fashion world. Have you ever thought about cooperating with other brands, celebrities, media (likeLustralboy.com) and even bloggers?

JB: Definitely. I haven't had a lot of extra time, but I'm always on the lookout for strategic partnerships.

Lb: Okay, I look forward to seeing the cooperation between Boqari and Lustralboy.com in the coming future. Time for the last question, Boqari just launched its 2011 collection. But fashion is always about the future, so could you tell us about the theme or idea for your next collection?

JB: We have a line of women's designs, including stockings, bras, panties, as well as you who clothing, and men's tees. If the line starts to grow, I have all kinds of crazy designs that I'd like to make. Picture Avatar goes futuristic.

Lb:A line of women’s designs… interesting. However, personally, I guess I’m going to find the line for Men more inspiring! Anyway, Thanks for your time for chatting with me. Lustralboy wishes Boqari a bright future in the fashion industry.
