While continuing our support for gay marriage, we felt we were failing to answer a simple question: where to do it?
In the absence, for now, of top hot destination, London, it’s legal for gay couples to wed in all of the cities below, identified by cheery travel site, Cheapflights, as the best gay wedding locations in the world.
Washington, DC, USA
Although gay marriage only came to D.C. in December 2009, America’s capital has long possessed a large LGBT population. So expect a profusion of gay-friendly neighborhoods and hotels for your wedding festivities. After all, Obama really is doing his bit to make good on America's promise of “equality and justice for all.”
Paris is still a good few months away from legalizing gay marriage. So if you're yearning for "I do" with a French accent, Montreal is the next best thing. Its beautiful parks, fantastic cuisine, lively nightlife and an unrivaled atmosphere of convivialité makes it a perfect place to share your vows. In fact, some of its residents are so charming you might even want to invite them along for your honeymoon.
Unsurprisinly, the Netherlands was the first country in the world to legalize gay marriage. Expect a warm welcome and endless romantic strolls by the canals. And if you still have the energy beyond the bedroom, enjoy the beautiful churches, five-star hotels, international cuisine and charming streets.
Despite the country’s strong ties to the Catholic Church, Spain’s legalization of gay marriage came as early as 2005. Well done the Spanish. Thrill to the lively whirlwind of Spanish culture, art and architecture. Few other cities light up romance like Madrid. But you might want to avoid the hordes celebrating Gay Pride!
Provincetown, Massachusetts, USA
Provincetown, the Fire Island of Massachusetts, comes laden with quaint bed and breakfasts dotting the coastal town’s narrow lanes, fantastic restaurants and gay nightlife. Head for a gorgeous beach, revel in the vibe of utter acceptance, and you'll get why Provincetown ranks highly among the best gay wedding destinations in the world.
Located at the mouth of Lake Mälaren, Stockholm is renowned for its natural beauty and clean air. Waterways, parks and green spaces make up a large percentage of the city’s space, much appreciated by the locals! The winters may be cold, but the city’s beauty is breathtaking.
Apart from its ability to supply a stream of cuties who qualify as our Models of the Month, B A is legendary for its hip Latin beats and general merrymaking. Immerse yourselves in a culture that throbs with unrestrainable passion. But don't forget to get yourself to the ceremony on time.
New York City, New York, USA
NYC has gone gay marriage crazy. Rise and shine atop the city that never sleeps in any number of marvelous hotels, thrill to the skyline, relax in Central Park and enjoy cruising the Meatpacking District, knowing that it's now more about fashion then S n M backrooms!
Often referred to as the “nightlife capital of the north,” probably as a result of the lively lifestyle of songstress, Bjork, Reykjavík is like nothing you’ve ever experienced. Explore the many geothermal-heated outdoor pools, beautiful parks and green spaces. And if you're timing is good, it’s Reykjavik’s Northern Lights that will make your special day truly one of a kind.
Lustralboy says: wherever you chose to celebrate your marriage, may it bring you the joy of love and companionship that you deserve.
