In a week that saw Angela Merkel ecouraging a gay German footballer out of the closet (he didn't emerge yet and we're sparing you a pic of Angela), there has been a rash of out stories. Here come four.
1. The Top Prize goes to Malaysia that already has a rich track record in counter-productive anti-gay measures. Just study the pic below.
Yes, the Education Ministry, desperate to help families spot the "evil gays" in their midst, provides accidental support for our self images. Makes you proud to be gay doesn't it, particulalry if you're being gay in Malaysia!! Check out more Malaysian folly in the Related Story links below.
2. Next in the news, Mika, who surprised no-one by coming out in August, has shed more light on his decision.
His announcement, made to a US magazine last month, came from a place of ‘confidence and joy’ which gave him the strength to deal with any fall-out from his Lebanese family.
‘I was scared of not being accepted by my family,’ he said. ‘No one in my family is gay. No one in my extended family is gay. It was a very foreign alien thing. You’re scared of being judged. Then you realise there is nothing to be afraid of if you are happy. I fell in love. I lost love. I got it again. I started living my life and got to a point where I was like “You know what, I’ve lived my life and never pretended to be anything else”. I’m doing this from a place of confidence and joy. So why not? Because it is important. I’m not afraid any more because I am quite happy and quite confident."
The singer said he had no plans to talk about his boyfriends except through his songs as he said he was still ‘very guarded’ about his private life.
Lustralboy is pleased for you, Mika. But see below for a different approach.
3.Zachary Quinto and Glee actor Jonathan Groff have gone public on their relationship.
Zachary Quinto, who came out last October, has revealed the identity of the boyfriend, fellow thespian, Jonathan Goff. Sheddding more light on his circumstances, he said:
"I'm incredibly happy, I'm incredibly lucky. I found myself in a pattern of being attracted to people who were somehow unavailable, and what I realized was that I was protecting myself because I equated the idea of connection and love with trauma and death. I had to do a lot of work on the couch to really get to a place where I was able to show up to a relationship with someone who was actually capable of being in one — and that took a lot of trial and error."
4. Lustralboy wishes Zach and Jonathan well and wonders whether they will, one day be pushing prams as happily as Neil Patrick Harris, who came out as long ago as 2006, and his partner, David Burtka. They've been together for more than five years and are the parents of twins, Gideon and Harper.
They say that they discussed having children together early on in their relationship. David, who is father to another set of twins that he had with his ex-partner, says: 'Even on that first date, we talked about kids.
Lustralboy congratulates all the above featured institutions and individuals on their respective contributions to the world of ever more proud and public gay people. See the Related Stories below for more uplifting items.
