Lui Wei. Chaotic City
CAT Beijing, inspired by the most exciting contemporary art scene in the world, has created a programme of in-depth two week tours beginning in August 2013. The organisers are Fion Gunn (artist/curator) who has many years of experience curating collaborative exhibitions in China and who has worked with Liao Yuwen (Co-ordinator) since 2007.
Aimed at artists/curators/academics/collectors and those who are seriously interested in discovering what is really happening in 798, Songzhuang, Chaochangdi etc - CAT Beijing organises studio & gallery visits, encounters with artists, gallerists and curators that would normally not be available to those visiting the city independently.
The comprehensive itinerary includes visits to more traditional attractions such as the Great Wall, Summer Palace & Forbidden City. The tour has been designed to be accessible and reasonably priced. A special introductory price is available for those booking on the first tour 16-29 August 2013.
This is the only comprehensive tour of the main contemporary arts districts in Beijing where members will be introduced to all aspects of the artisitic community. Accompanied by Fion and a Chinese interpreter on all these visits, members will have unprecedented access and communication with them.
By balancing the tour with visits to Beijing's traditional attractions like the Forbidden City, Great Wall, Summer Palace as well as the more recent ones like the National Center for the Performing Arts, Bird's Nest & Olympic Park, members will be able to observe the architectural complexity and extraordinary growth of the modern city.

Fion has curated IRISH WAVE (collaborative Irish/Chinese contemporary exhibitions) in China for the last four years. Films about the project can be found on Youtube. Her enthusiasm for Chinese contemporary art shines through below in the short film on the 2010 exhibition at the Bow Arts Trust in London. This was the first collaborative Irish-Chinese exhibition in the UK, showcasing the work of contemporary visual artists, sculptors and painters.
