Actor Ezra Miller, 19, recently cast as a gay high school student in the film adaptation of popular novel "The Perks of Being a Wallflower", has announced himself as gay in an Out magazine cover story. Note that we haven't said that he "came out", simply because he seems never to have made an effort to be "in".
“I’m queer,” he says in the interview. “I have a lot of really wonderful friends who are of very different sexes and genders. I am very much in love with no one in particular."
Miller, who starred last year as Tilda Swinton's disturbed son in "We Need to Talk About Kevin," describes how he was mocked as a kid for having a speech impediment.
A confrontation with a best friend changed his life.“I was trying to kiss boys in school,” he says, and then the best friend he fooled around with turned on him. “He had some macho realization that led him to believe that I was the problem. So I went from having a stutter to being a totally gay little opera singer to being, like, a really confused queer adolescent.”
Ezra stars as Patrick, a proudly gay high school student in Perks. Based on the 1999 novel by Stephen Chbosky, the film, directed by the author and co-starring Emma Watson and Logan Lerman, is scheduled for release on September 21.
More recently, for its latest Fall/Winter 2013 campaign Italian fashion house Prada enlisted Ezra, up-and-coming acting talents Ben Wishaw, and two-time Academy Award Winner Christoph Waltz.Renowned photographer David Sims captures the allstar-ensemble against a stylized 60s New Wave cinema inspired backdrop, with geometric furniture designed by OMA for Knoll.
Driven by a "fear for this planet's future," actor Ezra Miller also joined with three young people and a support crew on a dramatic expedition to the North Pole.
Safely home, he is now filming in Madame Bovary, scheduled for a 2014 release.
Lustralboy welcomes yet another starry young actor to the public gay world. We are just a bit impressed that, unlike Matt Bomer, Sean Maher, or most recently Anderson Cooper, Ezra is declaring his sexuality for himself, not for anyone else.
