Founded in 1999, Frankie Morello is Maurizio Modica and Pierfrancesco Gigliotti. Modica and Gigliotti originally hail from the worlds of dance and architecture respectively, but have been building their brand with stellar success from the outset. Their central philosophy: Order from Disorder. The brand is renowned for balancing opposites, thus creating bizarre garments that are nonetheless wearable. This achievement stems from their prerogative to create clothing that will be bought and worn by the public. Never conceiving of their brand as something to be worn by celebrities, their collaborations have always been initiated externally by those who sincerely love their clothing, and range from Lady Gaga to the Queen of Jordan.
The aim of the brand is not fame, but honesty. That earmark of individuality, the defect, is perceived as an artistic ideal at the maison Frankie Morello. Their message is that one should stay true to oneself and “mix!” Hence, they are disenchanted with the current rigidity of Italian fashion, warning that Italy runs the risk of becoming “a museum of fashion”.
In an industry spooked by theglobal financial crisis, Frankie Morello continues to innovate and remain realistic. Whilst other brands have returned to minimalist designs and inflated prices, often with disastrous consequences, they maintain their peculiarity. Determined to fight what Modica calls ‘this false fashion thing’, they focus on reaching an optimal intersection of quality and price.
Not taking themselves too seriously and committing to intelligent experimentation, Modica and Gigliotti have established a brand that is original, practical and undeniably sexy.
